Transgrancanaria 2024 Route

The Transgrancanaria consists of 7 different races that runners can join according to their level and experience.

  • Starter: 21 kilometres with 1,400 metres of positive elevation.
  • Marathon: 46 kilometres with 1,900 metres of positive elevation.
  • Classic: 126 kilometres with 6,804 metres of positive elevation.
  • Advanced: 84 kilometres with 4,800 metres of positive elevation.
  • Promo/Youth: 12 kilometres with 730 metres of positive elevation.
  • Family Trail: 12 kilometres with 730 metres of positive elevation.
  • KV El Gigante: 5.5 kilometres with 1,060 metres of positive elevation.

The profile of the Transgrancanaria route varies depending on the race chosen, with more or less steep ascents and descents. Moreover, weather conditions on the island can be very harsh, with abrupt temperature changes and winds. However, it's a race that cross-country marathon enthusiasts enjoy and repeat year after year.

Each year, the race course crosses some of the most iconic places in Gran Canaria, such as Roque Nublo, Roque Bentayga, Caldera de Tejeda, and the Barranco de Maspalomas.

Transgrancanaria Categories

Starter - 22/02

The Starter category of the Transgrancanaria is a 21-kilometre mountain race with 1,400 metres of positive elevation.

The Starter route begins in the small village of Tunte, in south-central Gran Canaria. Runners ascend along La Plata path, one of the most beautiful climbs on the island, to El Garañón. From there, the route descends through La Culata to the village of Tejeda, where the race ends.

Maratón - 23/02

The Marathon category of the Transgrancanaria is a 46-kilometre mountain race with 1,900 metres of positive elevation.

The Marathon route starts in the village of Tejeda, in the centre of Gran Canaria. Runners ascend along La Plata path to the Roque Nublo Parking. From there, the route descends passing through the villages of Tunte and Ayagaures to Parque Sur, in Maspalomas, where the race ends.

Classic - 23/02

The Classic category of the Transgrancanaria is a 126-kilometre ultra-distance race with 6,804 metres of positive elevation.

The Classic route starts at Las Canteras beach, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and passes through the villages of Tenoya, Arucas, Teror, Fontanales, El Hornillo, Artenara, Tejeda, El Garañón, Tunte, and Ayagaures, ending at Parque Sur in Maspalomas.

This is the longest and toughest of the Transgrancanaria races, with participants taking approximately 3 days to complete the route. However, there are refreshment points at several stages of the race for necessary stops and strength recovery.

Advanced - 24/02

The Advanced category of the Transgrancanaria is an 84-kilometre ultra-distance race with 4,800 metres of positive elevation.

The Advanced route starts in the village of Puerto de Las Nieves, in Agaete, north of Gran Canaria. Runners ascend through the village of El Hornillo to Artenara. From there, the route continues through the villages of Tejeda, El Garañón, and Tunte, descending finally to Ayagaures and ending at Parque Sur in Maspalomas.

Promo/Youth y Family Trail - 22/02

The Promo/Youth and Family Trail categories of the Transgrancanaria share the same route. This is a 12-kilometre mountain race with 730 metres of positive elevation.

The Promo/Youth and Family Trail route starts in the small village of Artenara, in the north of Gran Canaria. Runners ascend along La Plata path to the Degollada de Becerra viewpoint. From there, the route descends to the village of Tejeda, where the race ends.

KV El Gigante - 21/02

The KV El Gigante category of the Transgrancanaria is a vertical race of 5.5 kilometres with 1,060 metres of positive elevation.

The KV El Gigante route starts in the village of Agaete, in the north of Gran Canaria. Runners ascend the southern face of the Tamadaba massif, one of the toughest and most spectacular climbs on the island.

Registrations for the Transgrancanaria 2024 Edition

The theme of this edition of the race will be Kilometre 0, supporting Canarian products. The organization will pay tribute to farmers, ranchers, and artisans of the Islands, in addition to promoting local consumption.

This edition of the Transgrancanaria 2024 will have a new sponsor: The North Face. The North Face is a leading brand in mountain clothing and equipment, and their collaboration with the Transgrancanaria will help to enhance the participants’ experience.

Currently, registrations are closed due to high demand for this race. However, this does not prevent you from enjoying the 2024 edition of the Transgrancanaria in all its splendour.
